Fat grafting is the surgical process by which fat is transferred from one area of the body to another area with a goal to improve the area where fat is injected. To accomplish the desired outcome, the technique employed by plastic surgeons is to extract fat via liposuction process it, then re-inject purified fat into the area needing improvement.
Practitioners have documented the therapeutic benefits of fat grafting in the healing of wounds and scars, as well as fat’s ability to repair damage to breast tissue following radiation treatment. Today we’re looking at the volume of fat that is often transferred as delineated by parts of the human body.
Face (10cc – 100cc total)
Restores youthful appearance by adding volume to hollowed out or wrinkled areas such as the area below the eye and the nasolabial folds, helps repair scars, and adds volume to the cheeks. Fat grafting is used to improve the texture and appearance of the face skin.
Breast (25cc-400cc, each breast)
Some surgeons will use fat grafting to increase breast size by as much as two cup sizes. This technique can also help correct breast asymmetry, repairs radiation tissue damage and can treat breast implant capsular contractures, and helps correct scar deformities from lumpectomy or breast reconstruction.
Hips (100cc-300cc, each side)
Fat grafting in hips is done to add volume to achieve a more feminine profile and better waist-hip ratio.
Butt (200cc-1300 cc, each cheek)
Fat grafting in the buttock region makes buttocks appear perkier and done in relation to a brazilian butt lift to increase size.
Hands and Feet (5-10cc, per extremity)
Fat grafting in hands and feet is performed to reduce wrinkles and rejuvenate appearance, and provides padding for bony feet.
