Hormone therapy is a treatment option that supplements the levels of hormones like testosterone and estrogen in people who are experiencing low or sub-optimal levels. At our practice, we refer to “sub-optimal levels” as any level that is producing a noticeable negative effect (see list of symptoms below). Hormone therapy mimics the natural hormones that your body produces and has a long and successful history of use – hormone therapy also comes in a variety of forms that can be chosen based on your unique lifestyle and preferences.

Is Hormone Optimization Therapy for Me?

Anyone experiencing sub-optimal hormone levels can benefit from a therapy designed to bring them back to a healthier level. Despite being largely associated with sexual health, hormones like testosterone and estrogen are responsible for a wide variety of important functions in the body. When you have sub-optimal hormone levels, you might experience symptoms such as:

  • Fatigue
  • Brain fog and difficulty concentrating
  • Weight gain
  • Shifts in mood
  • Lack of muscle tone
  • Lack of ability to maintain muscle mass
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Hot flashes or night sweats

If you’re experiencing these symptoms, especially in middle age, hormone therapy has been proven to help. Dr. Dennis Barnett can assess your symptoms and help you develop a personalized treatment plan to bring you back to your health and wellness goals.

Your Hormone Therapy Options

Hormone therapy comes in a variety of different forms and we can help you select the ideal option for your preferences and lifestyle.

Pellet Therapy

Pellet therapy via Biote is an industry-leading hormone optimization therapy and is the method offered at Neaman Medi Spa. Hormone therapy involves inserting a small pellet just below the skin during a quick in-office procedure. The pellet dissolves over a few months and releases hormones on a 24-hour basis, providing the most long-term and stable therapy for hormone levels. Each pellet can be prescribed for an individualized dose based on your needs – it can’t be adjusted once inserted.

Injection Therapy

Hormones can be injected into the muscle either in-office or at home according to your needs. Injections offer a more controlled and adjustable dosage for patients who are just starting with hormone therapy, although some patients may not be comfortable with injections. Neaman Medi Spa does not offer this method.

Topical Therapy

Topical creams are an option for hormone therapy and may be an ideal option for patients who want a customizable and flexible option that does not involve needles or insertion. It can also offer a smaller dose since absorption through the skin can often be less effective. However, creams may not be effective enough for patients who need larger doses. Neaman Medi Spa does not offer topical creams for hormone therapy.

Hormone Therapy FAQs

How long does it take for your body to adjust to hormone therapy?

Although you may see improvement in your symptoms soon after starting hormone therapy, it typically takes 3 to 4 weeks to begin to feel a significant improvement. However, this timeline can be different for each patient and depends on factors like the dosage and individual anatomy.

Do you gain weight on hormone therapy?

Not necessarily. It is more important to focus on symptom improvement and body mass index instead of purely weight. For example, typically in males, we see a reduction in fat and increased muscle mass. Since muscle is heavier than fat, this could produce an overall increase in weight for leaner patients and a decrease for heavier-set patients.

What are the emotional effects of hormone replacement therapy?

Hormone therapy can have a largely positive effect on mood and overall emotional health. It can stabilize mood and lead to greater enjoyment of day-to-day activities.
