Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries. However, with so many choices in terms of implant type, size, and shape, it can seem like an overwhelming decision. Dr. Neaman, Dr. Christiansen,, and the Neaman Plastic Surgery team are committed to helping each patient understand their breast augmentation options so the best decision can be made for each patient’s unique goals.

Are Breast Implants for Me?

Women who want to create or enhance an hourglass figure, or change the size and shape of their breasts are good candidates for breast augmentation. There are a number of specialized breast surgeries to achieve certain results such as a breast surgeries such as breast lift, breast reduction, and breast revision. Sometimes breast surgery is a combination of two or more procedures. For example, a breast lift to remove sagging and excess tissue is often combined with breast implants to enhance the final results.

During your consultation, you can explore the numerous breast surgeries available and discuss your goals. We recommend you explore our actual patient before and after gallery for examples of your desired look and bring them to your consultation.

Benefits of Natural Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation can do much more than enhancing the size and shape of breasts. Breast implants can also create or restore symmetry and balance to increase self-confidence. If you have ever felt self-conscious due to breast asymmetry, size or changes in your breasts, natural breast augmentation can help you feel more comfortable in your skin.  Some additional breast augmentation benefits include:

  • Restoration of breast volume loss from having children, major weight loss, or aging
  • Correction of breast asymmetry, or disparity in size
  • Creation of balance
  • Addressing previous failed breast enhancement surgery
  • Recreating breasts post-mastectomy

Breast Implant Placement

There are two types of breast implant placement: above and below the muscle. Below the muscle is increasingly popular because it offers a more natural shape and upper fullness. However, it is also a more invasive surgery. Learn more during your consultation.

Breast Implant Incisions

There are three major types of incisions, and these include inframammary (in the folds of skin below the breast), periareolar (around the areola), and trans-axillary (in the armpit). The “best” type depends on the patient and their goals. There is also a fourth option, the TUBA (via the bellybutton) incision, which can be a good fit for some breast implant candidates. No matter which incision you and your doctor choose, the scars are discrete and often nearly invisible both with and without clothes.

What is breast augmentation surgery?

Breast augmentation surgery increases the size and volume of the breast with implants and can also help correct asymmetry between the breasts.

How is a breast augmentation different than a breast lift?

A breast augmentation requires implants, and a breast lift does not. A breast lift removes excess skin and usually requires the relocation of the nipple. Oftentimes, a breast lift and breast augmentation are performed together.

Should I get silicone or saline breast implants?

In the silicone vs. saline debate, one is not inherently better than the other. It depends on the patient, their body, and their goals. Learn more during a consultation with Dr. Neaman.

Where are breast implants placed?

Breast implants are either above or below the chest muscles. The more popular option is below the muscle, but there are anatomical considerations to take into account.

Can I get a mammogram after breast augmentation?

Yes, but special techniques need to be used. Your OBGYN and their staff regularly see breast augmentation patients and you can still get a quality mammogram if you have breast implants.

Where is the incision in a breast augmentations surgery?

There are three common incisions including around the areola, in the armpit, and in the crease below the breast. A less common incision is via the bellybutton.

Will people know I had breast augmentation surgery?

A highly-trained surgeon such as Dr. Christiansen or Dr. Neaman are able to use special techniques to produce a natural shape while concealing any noticeable scars whenever possible.

Will I have scars after breast augmentation?

Yes, but they will be discreet and hardly noticeable. Reputable cosmetic surgeons are skilled at leaving minimal scarring and hiding them in creases, but it also depends on the type of breast procedure you undergo. For example, you usually cannot see the scars for any of our standard breast augmentation patients as they are hidden by our surgeons. However, in procedures such as a breast lift which uses a vertical incision to tighten the skin, the scars will be more visible.

“I have been so impressed with Dr. Neaman and his staff. I received a breast augmentation and am very happy with the results. Dr. Neaman is incredibly professional and every staff member that I’ve dealt with is very courteous and they’re so nice!”
