About 2% of women in the United States have inverted nipples. Inverted nipples are inward pointing nipples and can either affect one or both nipples. Causes of inverted nipples can be due to a narrow nipple base, short milk ducts or by possible scarring of the milk ducts. There are stages of inversion and depending on the severity can make women feel self-conscious and may cause breast-feeding problems.
