Spider veins are typically a cosmetic issue caused by poor blood flow to the veins in areas like the legs or face. Sclerotherapy is an in-office treatment that uses a specialized solution to disrupt spider veins and cause them to fade from the surface of the skin. Our team can help you explore minimally invasive and long-lasting solutions to vascular concerns like spider veins.

Is Sclerotherapy for Me?

Spider veins are most commonly the result of genetics or lifestyle factors. You may get them from standing or sitting for long periods, or from aging or pregnancy. In some cases, there’s no guaranteed way to prevent spider veins, meaning reducing their appearance with professional treatment is the most effective option if you’re bothered by them. Our providers will assess your overall medical health to ensure that sclerotherapy will be safe and effective for you. For example, if you are pregnant, have an allergy to polidocanol, or have a history of blood clots or veins that may need more substantial medical treatment, we can discuss your best options.

Benefits of Sclerotherapy

If you’re bothered by the look of spider veins, sclerotherapy can help. Spider veins are typically not a medical issue, but they may disrupt the overall look of clear, healthy skin. Sclerotherapy is an excellent option for improving the look of your legs or face if you have visible blue, purple, or red veins. Although other options exist for treating spider veins, the benefits of sclerotherapy include:

  • Long-lasting results
  • Customizable treatment
  • Minimal side-effects
  • Quick, in-office procedure

I was met with a caring, friendly staff. I am 59 and showing signs of aging. First, I had filler and BOTOX done by with great results. Next, a laser treatment using radio waves. Very little recovery time. I love the results already.

Your Sclerotherapy Procedure

Sclerotherapy can be performed right at our Salem, OR office and accredited treatment center. Our team will ensure a smooth and low-hassle treatment process for your spider veins.

Before

Our team will give you pre-treatment instructions to ensure a smooth and effective process. On the day of your treatment, avoid putting any lotion or skincare products on your treatment area and wear loose, comfortable shorts for treatment. Our team will also give you instructions on purchasing medium-grade compression stockings ahead of time to bring to your treatment.

During

Sclerotherapy involves a few injections and may cause a slight stinging sensation. For each treatment area, the skin will be cleansed and a sclerosing agent (Asclera) will be injected into the vein. This causes it to close and reroute blood elsewhere through healthier veins. Once complete, you’ll be given aftercare instructions and compression stockings to begin wearing.

After

You can drive yourself home after your procedure since it doesn’t require any sedation or general anesthesia. However, you should make sure to walk around and remain lightly active for the first several days after treatment. You should also wear your compression stockings as much as possible. Finally, avoid hot baths or hot tubs, sun exposure, and heavy exercise for the first few days.

Our team will help you learn more about your treatment options for spider veins during a consultation. You’ll receive a customized spider vein treatment plan using sclerotherapy and our state-of-the-art treatment options at Neaman Medi Spa.

Sclerotherapy Results

It typically takes 1-2 months for results to show after sclerotherapy, depending on the size of the treated veins. These veins will gradually fade from the surface of the skin as the body absorbs them. Additional treatments (1-3) are typically required for best results and are spaced about 1-2 weeks apart. Although spider veins treated with sclerotherapy don’t come back, more veins can appear. In this case, you may need additional treatments. Our team can give you the best idea of what to expect.

Sclerotherapy FAQs FAQ's

How long should I rest after sclerotherapy?

You may return to your regular daily activities after sclerotherapy but should avoid any strenuous activity for 1-2 weeks.

What happens if I don’t wear compression stockings after sclerotherapy?

One important aspect of sclerotherapy is ensuring the treated veins remain closed and do not fill back up with blood. If you don’t wear compression stockings, the veins can open again and remain visible.

Is walking good after sclerotherapy?

Sitting or standing for long periods can increase your risk of complications after sclerotherapy. It’s ideal to regularly walk around after your procedure to keep blood flowing.
