Wrinkles on the skin are a direct result of the repetitive motion of the muscles in the face. Botox is an injectable that prevents the muscles from contracting, therefore erasing the wrinkle. Check out how Botox is injected between the eyes, also referred to as “the angry 11’s”.

Approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2002 for the cosmetic treatment of forehead lines, Botox has since demonstrated success in rejuvenating skin tone in other areas. Dysport was approved by the (FDA) in 2009. Both Botox and Dysport can be used to treat conditions including:
Both Galderma and Allergan offer points programs! That means every time you get treated, you’ll earn points and savings on future treatments and purchases. It’s fast, free, and it’s easy.
Besides being made by two different companies there are two main differences between these two products. Because Dysport is made with a smaller protein it usually begins to work up to a few days faster than Botox. In addition, Dysport covers a wider area surrounding the injection site. Because of this, many people feel as if they get more of a natural looking result covering more of a broader area with less actual injections.
Both Botox and Dysport are proteins derived from botulinum toxin type A, which inhibits the muscle contractions that contribute to the development of wrinkles, lines, and creases. In a brief outpatient procedure, Botox or Dysport is injected into the muscles below the affected areas via a tiny needle. Botox requires no downtime for recovery, and most patients see the desired results within three to 10 days following treatment. Dysport, like Botox also requires no downtime, but patients tend to see results as much as one to two days earlier than Botox, making it the more appropriate injection for a quicker fix.
Wrinkles on the skin are a direct result of the repetitive action of the facial muscles. When Botox is used, the muscles are prevented from contracting, and therefore the wrinkles are softened or eliminated. Most often, with regularly scheduled Botox injections, the time between the injections gets longer. It appears that the muscles develop atrophy over time.
Some of the more pronounced wrinkles on the face are caused by repeated facial movements over a long period, causing them to become deeper and more profound. Botox is a medication that relaxes the facial muscles. It can be injected into the muscles that are causing the wrinkles, temporarily paralyzing them and fading the wrinkles that have long been there. Dermal fillers are used not to relax the muscle that shows lines, rather fill in areas that have lost volume, and Sculptra is a unique dermal filler. Botox and dermal fillers are used completely differently and work together well.
Botox is used for a variety of cosmetic and non-cosmetic purposes and has been safely used since the early 1990’s. The FDA approved it for the use of frown lines in 2002.
The importance of seeking out an injector with skill and experience cannot be overstressed. Your provider should be a board certified Plastic Surgeon. Be wary of anyone who gives injections ‘on the side.’ You want an injector who has studied facial anatomy and will customize your injections to your face. A new injector may inject too much, or they may inject into the wrong muscles. Just a millimeter off can make a world of a difference.
Of course, we have all seen “that person” who has overdone the Botox injections. Your face will most definitely have a lack of movement in the areas treated. The goal is to relax the muscles, not to paralyze them.
Botox is often injected info glabellar lines, also known as frown lines, between the eyebrows. Botox is also commonly used to relax wrinkles around the eyes or crow’s feet, as well as the horizontal lines across the forehead.
Several companies make products comparable to Botox, such as Dysport and Xeomin. While each has a slightly different formulation, they all work the same way to block the nerve impulses of the injected muscle to paralyze the muscle movement causing the wrinkle temporarily.
