Nipple Surgery

NEAMAN PLASTIC SURGERY | SALEM, CORVALLIS, EUGENE, + PORTLAND, OREGON

When people think of plastic surgery or breast augmentation, nipple surgery doesn’t usually come to mind. However, it is a very real and common procedure that is helping to restore confidence in women and improve the appearance of their breasts. Some women experience issues with either their nipples or areola – the circular, darkened skin around the nipple – due to a birth defect or as a consequence of developmental, hormonal or medical factors. Neaman Plastic Surgery offers nipple surgery to address issues such as inverted nipples or large areolas. Why Consider Nipple Surgery

There are many women who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their nipples but are unaware of surgical options to reconstruct and restore their aesthetics. The most common reasons for nipple surgery include:

  • Elevate nipples
  • Nipple and areola reduction
  • Correct inverted nipples

Breast Reconstruction Surgery

Dr. Dustin Christiansen is a board certified plastic surgeon at Neaman Plastic Surgery. See him discuss the various types of breast reconstruction including with and without implants and the multiple benefits of each type of reconstruction.

Breast Reduction Benefits

There are several benefits to breast reduction surgery including a functional benefit (reduction of pain in the neck, back, and shoulders), easier to find clothing (swimsuits, bras, and more), and an aesthetic improvement to the breast by decreasing the sagging and raising the nipples. Karla – Breast Augmentation*

Karla is a 30-something-year-old seeking to improve her appearance through a breast augmentation surgery. “Dr. Neaman really listened to what I wanted. I feel amazing and have a lot more confidence. I’m in my 30’s and I want to look as good as I can. Going through surgery really helped me with that.”

Lift Low Nipples For Improved Symmetry

Women can become self-conscious over the position of their nipples. Women who suffer from ptosis, or sagging breasts, often find that their nipples hang lower than desired. This usually occurs in women who have enlarged breasts that become heavy and begin to hang with age. With large breasts, nipples can also appear to be too wide apart. Nipple surgery is performed alongside both a breast lift and breast reduction surgery. During these two cosmetic procedures, the nipples are raised to a higher position for a more symmetrical and pleasing appearance.

Improve Appearance of Nipples and Areolas With Reduction

Enlarged nipples can cause many women to become self-conscious in and out of clothing. When nipples become unusually large it is usually following breastfeeding. Nipple reduction helps to surgically correct large nipples to appear rounder and more symmetric. Along with enlarged nipples, overly large areolas also result in embarrassment and concern for women. More often than not, excessively large areolas are associated with large breasts. Though areola reduction can be performed by itself, it, like nipple reduction, is corrected frequently during breast augmentation or a breast lift. Though there is no correct size for an areola, Dr. Keith Neaman and Dr. Dustin Christiansen will discuss with you your desired results and carefully reduce the areola to a more aesthetically pleasing size.

Correct Inverted Nipples For Improved Breast Appearance

About 2% of women in the United States have inverted nipples. Inverted nipples are inward pointing nipples and can either affect one or both nipples. Causes of inverted nipples can be due to a narrow nipple base, short milk ducts or by possible scarring of the milk ducts. There are stages of inversion and depending on the severity can make women feel self-conscious and may cause breast-feeding problems.

The nipple inversion procedure can be performed alone or in combination of another breast procedure such as breast augmentation, breast reduction or breast lift. Depending on if it is combined with another procedure or not, the actual nipple surgery for nipple inversion is quick and the recovery period is short; however, the benefits of increasing your self-confidence and self-esteem are significant.
