Liposuction is a popular, sought-after procedure at Neaman Plastic Surgery for eliminating unwanted excess fatty deposits on the body. It can help to tone and sculpt your figure by removing fat that’s proven to be resistant to diet and exercise. Many of our patients automatically assume that liposuction results are permanent. Although this is technically true, liposuction results are completely dependent on the patient putting forth a little bit of effort to maintain them.

Breaking Down the Fat – The Liposuction Procedure

Liposuction involves the removal of fatty deposits from areas on the body, such as your tummy, thighs, and buttocks, through the use of a thin hollow tube known as a cannula. The isolated fat cells are removed from the body via suction. Once the fat cells are removed, they are permanently destroyed and cannot grow back. This is why liposuction promises an effective method for permanent results. However, the residual fat cells that remain in the body can change and consequently alter your results.

Once we reach adulthood, we have a set amount of fat cells that are specific to our individual body. The only way to change the amount is by having surgery. The size of the fat cells can fluctuate depending on weight gain or loss and overall health. So, following liposuction, the remaining fat cells in the body can grow in size and virtually cancel out your liposuction results. And depending on where and how much fat was removed from your body, if weight gain does occur post-liposuction, you run the risk of developing an unbalanced contour due to fat accumulation in parts of your body that weren’t affected by liposuction. It’s difficult to predict how your body would respond to weight gain after liposuction, but fortunately, you’re in complete control of your results following your procedure.

Make Your Lipo Results “Permanent”

The key to maintaining “permanent” liposuction results is to keep your weight stable. The best way to achieve that is with a healthy, balanced diet and regular exercise. Be mindful of what you eat and drink. Limit alcohol as it’s purely just extra calories. Join a sports intramural league to stay motivated and active. You can’t expect to have a thin sculpted physique without doing your part. Lipo can only do so much, and then you have to step in.
