Exercise is critical to good overall health and helps combat the signs of aging. It stands to reason most active people want to return to exercising as quickly as possible after Botox treatments.

Many patients are concerned about how Botox will interfere with their fitness regimen. Can exercising after Botox cause diminished results?

Avoid Certain Exercises and Activities Immediately After Botox

Botox injections can migrate within the first 24 hours. Intensive exercises and activities that cause you to bend over can increase swelling, discomfort, and bleeding. These activities can also cause your Botox injections to migrate to other areas and increase the risks of bleeding and bruising.

Dr. Neaman recommends avoiding lying down for a few hours after your Botox procedure. You should also avoid the following for at least 24 hours and preferably a few days for the best results.

  • Do not bend down.
  • Do not lean your head on your hand.
  • Avoid wearing bands or hats on your head.
  • Do not wear tight-fitting sunglasses or goggles.
  • Do not perform headstands or downward dog moves.

There Is Little Downtime with Botox

Although you should not exercise immediately after Botox treatments, it is safe to go on a nice walk. It is beneficial to stay upright for a few hours after your treatment.

One of the things people like about Botox treatments, aside from the amazing results, is there is minimal downtime. The procedure only takes a few minutes, and there is no anesthetic to overcome.

You can return to light exercise after your procedure but do not do any leaning, bending, or lying movements for the first 24 hours after your injections. Most people return to work or school right away and do not suffer any ill effects.

It is important to note that it is expected to experience some swelling, redness, irritation, and possible bruising. You will not notice your final results for 10 to 14 days. Your results are long-lasting for up to 12 months. You can go through repeat treatments when the results begin to wear off.

If exercise is a significant part of your life, you can still receive Botox treatments. With a short break from intense exercise, you will get optimal results from Botox and soon be back hitting the gym.
