What You Can Expect From Tummy Tuck Surgery

14 Dec 2020 What You Can Expect From Tummy Tuck Surgery
Posted at 14:23h in Tummy Tuck 0 Likes

The size of your tummy tuck scar and the location of the scar is heavily dependent on what kind of abdominoplasty you go for. Traditional tummy tuck scars will be located across your hips and hidden under your bikini line. If you go for a mini tummy tuck, the scar should only end up being a bit longer than a c-section scar. Extended tummy tucks usually leave the longest scar and take the longest amount of time to heal.

Some patients might lose some weight from the procedure, but you should only go for a tummy tuck if you are already at an appropriate weight for your height. Tummy tucks do not directly affect stretch marks, but since the abdominal skin is pulled down during the procedure, stretch marks might move or get lowered if they are a part of the excess skin. With so many things to consider, you may be wondering what exactly to expect from Tummy Tuck surgery.

Recovering From a Tummy Tuck

Your doctor will give you instructions for how to properly care for the scar over the course of your recovery. While many patients are given antibiotics after a tummy tuck surgery, some are given topical creams to apply around the incision. You may need abdominal support such as a garment or a wrap to help with any discomfort as you are recovering. You should wear the support garment as often as the instructions recommend.

Activities such as drinking alcohol or smoking might slow down your recovery time, so you should avoid these activities for a minimum of three months after the surgery. You may experience sensations such as numbness or pulling for a few weeks after your tummy tuck surgery, but this is completely normal and will fade given enough time. In some cases, it can take as long as three months for the swelling to go completely down and perhaps even longer for the scar to fade.

As you are recovering, you may want to ask your surgeon for advice regarding how to properly bathe after the procedure is finished, when you need to remove the bandages, when you can return to your normal day-to-day activities, and if you need to schedule a follow-up appointment with your general practitioner.

Some Possible Complications

Sometimes areas along the scar can heal poorly; in this situation, you may be given antibiotics to prevent infections. Sometimes, during the surgery, fatty tissue can get damaged, but this is more common for people who smoke. Excessive fluid may collect in the drainage tubes after the surgery. If this occurs, your doctor needs to remove the fluid with a syringe. While you’re getting a tummy tuck procedure, the nerves in your abdominal tissues or thighs can become numb. This numbness typically goes away in just a few months.

What to Do When Toning Doesn’t Pay Off

30 Jun 2020 What to Do When Toning Doesn’t Pay Off
Posted at 00:19h in Liposuction, Tummy Tuck 0 Likes

Many people want the look of a sculpted body. If you have been following your doctor’s or nutritionist’s advice on cutting back on processed carbs, eliminating sugar from your diet and adding daily exercise and muscle toning, you might wonder what else you could possibly do if your body isn’t providing you with the results you expect. When you are tired of trying to tone the same area and frustrated with spending so much time on so little results, a tummy tuck, liposuction procedure or combination of these may be just what you need in order to get the sleek and sculpted look you desire.

Deal With Localized Fat Deposits

If you have a stubborn fat deposit, such as a “muffin top” or chubby upper arms, liposuction could be an ideal procedure for your situation. Liposuction removes those unsightly fat deposits. After your short recovery, the result is a smoother profile. Liposuction is not meant to help you lose weight, but it is meant to help you attain a more sculpted shape. When you’ve already lost the weight and have a regular exercise routine, a liposuction procedure could help you get to your goal of a firmer and toner body.

Get Rid of Extra Skin

After you lose a lot of weight, you may end up with extra skin. No matter how much you work those underlying muscles, the skin will still be there. You could have the most toned muscles on the block, and the extra skin will still sag and form folds that impact the way your clothes fit. A tummy tuck procedure can get rid of this extra skin around your belly. You may also want to consider a similar procedure in order to get the extra skin removed from around your upper arms, thighs or buttocks. Once the extra skin is removed, you will be able to see how toned your muscles are.

Combination Procedures for Improving Problem Spots

Many people have loose muscles that are a result of inactivity, rapid weight gain and weight loss, childbirth, injuries or abdominal surgeries. If you had bariatric surgery or a c-section, your abdominal muscles could be separated down the middle. This results in a protruding tummy even if you are not overweight. This muscle separation can also happen to small-boned women and short women who carry a large full-term baby. A combination of liposuction and tummy tuck can fix these loose muscles and give you a more toned appearance. As you get older, your skin loses elasticity. After you reach your ideal body weight, you could still have loose muscles or saggy skin. By having plastic surgery procedures that remove the extra skin, any hidden fatty deposits and repairing separated muscles, you can get that toned look you desire. Maintaining a healthy diet and continuing to exercise will help you keep the sculpted look to your body.

Why a Tummy Tuck Can Help You Look and Feel Better

17 Jun 2020 Why a Tummy Tuck Can Help You Look and Feel Better
Posted at 02:40h in Tummy Tuck 0 Likes

You revised your eating habits, stopped eating empty calories from soda and candy and added exercise to your daily routines. If you look in the mirror and still see a dreaded “muffin top” or “apron belly,” you might feel frustrated. When you continue to do everything possible to sculpt your body, a tummy tuck might be a good choice to continue with your progress. Here are three ways in which a tummy tuck can improve the way you look and how you feel about yourself.

Target Areas That Are Resistant to Toning

Many people have a body shape that is resistant to toning in certain areas. The tummy is notoriously difficult to flatten or tone. Even if you have cut back on your calorie intake, eliminated sugar and other inflammatory foods from your diet and started a workout regimen to target your abdominal muscles, you might still deal with extra fat around your belly and waistline. A tummy tuck allows you to swiftly get rid of the fat that makes an apron belly or muffin top. Instead of spending hours every day trying to tone those areas through exercise, you can relax a little and cut back your exercise to a more moderate level.

Fit Your Pants Better

The muffin top and apron belly can make it difficult to fit into your pants, shorts or skirts. If the pants fit great in the legs and seat, you might be trying to squeeze your tummy or waist into your clothes. The result is discomfort and an unsightly bulge. When you prefer a more sculpted look without any lumps, a tummy tuck may be the right choice. If you have already lost the weight and are at a healthy body mass index, the tummy tuck procedure gets rid of the extra skin that is the cause of many apron bellies and muffin tops. After a tummy tuck, your skin will be smoother and regain some of its elasticity. You will also feel better about the way you look in fitted clothing.

Repair Loose Muscles

Any type of abdominal surgery, rapid weight gain or rapid weight loss can lead to loose abdominal muscles. Women who have had a full-term pregnancy or had a c-section know that those loose muscles are difficult to tighten, even after they lose the baby weight. Loose muscles do not lay flat. Instead, they flop and bulge. During a tummy tuck to remove extra fat and skin, you can also have those loose abdominal muscles tightened. Strategic stitching gets the muscles back into their proper position. As you heal, you can begin exercising those muscles. This helps them get stronger and flatter. The flat abdominal muscles create a sleek profile and help you get rid of the apron belly or muffin top look. A nutritious diet with plenty of protein to encourage muscle repair and growth is also a wise idea for flattening your tummy and cinching your waistline.

How Soon Can I Go Back To Work After A Tummy Tuck?

24 Jan 2020 How Soon Can I Go Back To Work After A Tummy Tuck?
Posted at 01:01h in Tummy Tuck 1 Likes

You have just had a tummy tuck and want to know how soon you will be able to return to work. The time it takes to recover can vary from person to person. A quick answer to the question would be anywhere from two to six weeks.

Once the surgery is completed, you should be able to return home on the same day. Even so, once you go home, you will need to have some assistance. There is a garment for compression that needs to be worn for at least four to six weeks to make sure the tummy is held in place the proper way. This helps it heal the correct way. Then you will need to have multiple visits with the surgeon in the weeks following the procedure.

The back to work time depends on your basic fitness and health. Health and fitness levels can determine how quickly you heal. It also depends on what kind of job you have. For a desk job, it may only take 10 to 15 days of recovery to return to work. However, if the job is physical, such as standing, manual labor and even dancing, there should be more time to wait.

If you are a smoker, this could also impact your recovery time and the time it takes to go back to work. The blood vessels are affected by cigarette smoke and can slow the process of healing. Smoking can also cause serious problems so quitting for four to six weeks prior to and after surgery would be a good idea, not to mention quitting altogether.

Each person’s body is different and that also applies to recovery time after a tummy tuck. Walking a bit after surgery is a good way to help with healing and will also lessen the chance of blood clots forming. It can help avoid too much swelling and keep muscles from being too stiff.

During the first few days there may be some swelling, bruising and tightness. The garment for compression will still be in place even after the drains are removed. No lifting, heavy exercise, drinking alcohol, smoking or working should be done during the first week.

After two weeks, the surgery site should have less swelling and bruising and the tightness should begin to disappear. All throughout the recovery period, the surgeon and specialist should be consulted to know what can and can’t be done. Also, if there are any unusual complications during this time, the physicians should be promptly notified. They are also the ones who will be able to determine the best time that you can return to work.

Understanding Liposuction vs. Tummy Tucks

08 Oct 2019 Understanding Liposuction vs. Tummy Tucks
Posted at 19:38h in Liposuction, Tummy Tuck 0 Likes

There are various cosmetic surgeries that people undergo to achieve a flatter abdomen. Two of the most common procedures being tummy tucks and liposuction. It’s important to understand the differences between these two procedures. These words are often thrown around, and although they are both used to shape the abdomen, they are very different.

What is a Tummy Tuck?

A “tummy tuck” is medically known as an Abdominoplasty. The primary purpose of this procedure is to remove excess skin from the abdomen and tighten the abdominal muscles. It’s often called a “tummy tuck” due to the surgical method.

How is it done?

A tummy tuck is performed under general anesthesia with two incisions. The first is made going from one hipbone to the other, coming close to the pubic area. The second is made along the navel. The length and shape of the incision can vary depending on the amount of skin needing to be removed. The skin is then separated from the abdomen, and the abdominal muscles are pulled together and stitched into place. The skin is then pulled back into place. Excess skin is trimmed off and removed. The navel is put back in place in a natural position. The skin is then stitched back into place, and bandaged.

What is Liposuction?

The goal of liposuction is different from that of a tummy tuck. Liposuctions are done in order to remove small amounts of fat from small areas in the abdomen, arms, hips, or thighs. These fat deposits often cannot be removed through diet and exercise, therefore liposuction becomes an option. Liposuctions do not remove excess skin, although a tummy tuck and liposuction may be done at the same time.

How is it done?

Liposuction can be done under general, epidural, or local anesthesia depending on the size of the area being worked on. The procedure is done with a small incision. The fat is broken down with various tools and removed with suction. Liposuction is relatively fast, the entire procedure taking only an hour, whereas tummy tucks can take 2-4 hours.

What are the similarities?

Both liposuction and tummy tucks are cosmetic procedures but are not a substitute for weight loss. The ideal candidate for the surgery are those who are already happy with their weight and who’s concerns cannot be helped with diet and exercise.

Both procedures can be used to reshape the abdomen. In fact, they are done often at the same time. The removal of excess skin and fat can lead to a flatter tummy and better results than simply one of the procedures. The use of both can also allow for better contouring of the abdomen.

Benefits of Liposuction and Tummy Tucks

The main benefit of both of these procedures is the reshaping of the abdomen. This effect may not be achievable with only diet and exercise. Liposuction can help remove fat from problem areas. Tummy tucks can remove excess skin that can be the result of pregnancy, drastic weight loss, or genetics. These procedures may help increase the individual’s self-confidence as they treat small problem areas.

Differences Between Body Lifts & Tummy Tucks

26 Sep 2019 Differences Between Body Lifts & Tummy Tucks
Posted at 01:44h in Body Lift, Tummy Tuck 0 Likes

After a dramatic weight loss or simply because of the natural aging process, it’s not uncommon to have excess skin that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise. Because skin loses elasticity over time, even after losing weight, there may be areas where the skin doesn’t retract back to its anatomical position.

There are several types of plastic surgery that can improve the appearance of loose skin:

Body Lift

Body lift or body contouring is one of the most requested cosmetic procedures after weight loss. Body lift procedures involve the surgeon removing excess skin in all areas of the body. These can include the abdomen, arms, thighs, waist, and buttocks. While body lift results are immediate, however, it’s important to note that patients who choose to undergo a body lift will have scars.

In addition, if patients regain the weight they’ve lost, the skin will stretch out again. Body lifts are performed under general anesthesia and do have a significant period of recovery. The length of recovery will depend on the number of surgical areas as well as the extent of the procedure itself. All surgical areas will be closed with sutures or clips as well as compression garments.

Tummy Tuck

An abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, removes excess skin and tightens the muscles of the abdomen. Most patients undergo a tummy tuck after pregnancy or weight loss when diet and exercise don’t produce the results they want. Tummy tucks flatten the stomach and create a firmer, more toned appearance. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia.

Incisions are closed with absorbable sutures or clips, which will need to be removed. In addition, there’s a recovery period. Recovery after a tummy tuck is approximately two weeks. Patient’s will have to wear a supportive garment after the procedure. Final results are immediate and continue to improve following the procedure.

Which Procedure is Right for You?

When it comes to deciding which procedure is best for you, the first step is determining aesthetic goals. For patients who’ve lost a considerable amount of weight and have loose skin in areas besides their abdomens, a body lift might be the right choice. For patients who only have redundant skin in your abdominal area, then a tummy tuck may be the right choice.

The best way to determine which procedure is best is by consulting with an experienced plastic surgeon who can examine the areas of concern and create a personalized treatment plan.

3 Situations Where a Tummy Tuck Will Help

21 May 2019 3 Situations Where a Tummy Tuck Will Help
Posted at 05:00h in Tummy Tuck 0 Likes

Tummy tucks are popular aspects of a mommy makeover, but can also be performed as a standalone surgery for both women and men. Neaman Plastic Surgery specializes in abdominoplasty (the tummy tuck) and approaches this life-changing procedure as if creating a work of art. Liposuction is often performed in tandem with a tummy tuck to help contour the body, offering customized results and helping to permanently remove the dangerous fat that tends to get stored in the belly.

A tummy tuck is much more than removing loose skin from the abdomen. It requires incredible precision to shape the body into a pleasing yet natural shape. If you’ve been considering a tummy tuck, here are a few situations where it might be the best solution for you:

1. You have “crepey” skin from weight fluctuations. Those who have experienced massive weight fluctuations, such as losing several pounds, are often disappointed to find out that diet and exercise aren’t enough to get the look they want. Big, fast weight loss can lead to very saggy skin, sometimes called a “skirt.” The only way to address it is through a tummy tuck.

2. You want your pre-baby body back. Weight gain and loss, of course, occurs with pregnancy. No matter what celebrities say, it’s very rare for any woman to “snap back” to her pre-baby body in the tummy area. If you have sagging skin from childbirth and are finished having biological children, a tummy tuck can give you your pre-baby belly back.

3. You want to wear a swimsuit with confidence. The incision scar from a tummy tuck can range in size depending on fat distribution, but it’s commonly from hip bone to hip bone. However, these scars are kept low on the abdomen. They’re easy to hide beneath the band of underwear or a swimsuit.

Book Your Tummy Tuck Consultation Today!

Tummy tucks can do what no amount of exercise and dieting can do. Everyone has different amounts of collagen and elastin produced in their body, and these amounts decrease with age. Without proper collagen and elastin, the skin simply can’t “snap back” like it used to—but a tummy tuck can help. To learn more, schedule a tummy tuck consultation at Neaman Plastic Surgery today by calling 844-338-5445.

A Mommy Makeover for Mother’s Day

Neaman Plastic Surgery offers customized “mommy makeovers,” which combine different surgeries with the ultimate goal of helping women get back their pre-baby bodies. It’s almost guaranteed that post-partum bodies will include new pockets of fat that stubbornly resist diet and exercise, sagging skin, and lost breast volume coupled with unprecedented loose skin. From nipples that now point downward to feeling like you can’t confidently wear a bikini, mom bodies are still beautiful, but they can sometimes affect your self-esteem.

There is no one size fits all mommy makeover, just like there’s no single type of mom. That is why mommy makeovers include a combination of procedures that are personalized to you based on your goals. Common mommy makeover procedures may include:

Tummy tuck. Tummy tucks remove excess skin from the tummy area. It is usually combined with liposuction for added contouring and removing of stubborn fat.

Breast augmentation. Restore lost volume to the breasts with implants. A breast lift can be combined with a breast augmentation to reduce sag and permanently remove loose skin.

Liposuction. Moms don’t only gain weight in their bellies and breasts while pregnant. If you’ve noticed unwanted fat that refuses to budge anywhere on your body, it can be permanently removed with liposuction.

Body Lift. Body lifts are like tummy tucks, but go all the way around. It’s a procedure that removes excess skin from the tummy, sides, and back. It is often used in conjunction with liposuction and sometimes a butt lift.

Signs A Tummy Tuck May Be Right For You

23 Apr 2019 Signs A Tummy Tuck May Be Right For You
Posted at 05:00h in Tummy Tuck 0 Likes

Have you considered undergoing a tummy tuck but aren’t quite sure if it’s the procedure for you? If so, you’re not alone. Abdominoplasty performed by Salem plastic surgeons Dr. Keith Neaman, and Dr. Dustin Christiansen is a popular surgical option amongst women of all ages. It removes excess skin and fat around the midsection to reveal a nicely contoured and attractive figure. Sometimes, diet and exercise aren’t enough to rid your tummy of that last bit of fat or loose skin following childbirth or extreme weight loss. If a tummy tuck is on your mind, here are a few signs that may indicate you’re a good candidate.

You Suffer From Lax Skin and Loose Abdominal Muscles

When skin is overly stretched, it begins to lose its elasticity and is unable to retract back to its former shape. The tissue fibers break down, and the skin becomes loose and can appear to be slightly hanging. During pregnancy, the abdominal region expands as the baby grows. This not only stretches the skin on and around your tummy, but it also overly stretches your abdominal muscles. Once the baby is born, many women are left with hanging skin and weakened abdominal muscles that can result in a protruding belly. A tummy tuck excises the loose skin and tightens the muscles by stitching them back together.

Stubborn Fat Is Compromising Your Flat Tummy

Along with excess skin, stubborn pockets of fat can disguise a rather sleek and fit midsection. If you’ve tried every exercise and diet program and still haven’t been able to rid yourself of leftover fatty deposits, a tummy tuck may be an ideal solution. However, it isn’t just a tummy tuck you’ll need. A tummy tuck with liposuction is the perfect combination for trimming and tightening your waistline.

You’ve Had the Baby But Are Still Wearing Maternity Clothes

Childbirth is a beautiful thing; however, what it physically does to your body can leave you feeling anything but beautiful. If you’ve lost the baby weight but are still wearing your maternity clothes to hide the extra bulges, it could be a sign you need to consult Neaman Plastic Surgery about abdominoplasty in Salem. You deserve to feel confident about your body and overall appearance, and a tummy tuck can sculpt your abdomen to give you back the confidence to bare your midriff once again.

Discuss Your Abdominoplasty Candidacy At Neaman Plastic Surgery

If you can relate with any of the above signs, are in good general health and are finished having children, a tummy tuck may be the procedure for you. To find out if you’re a good candidate for abdominoplasty or another one of our body contouring procedures, contact Neaman Plastic Surgery at 844-338-5445 to schedule a consultation.

Tips To A Successful Mommy Makeover Recovery

02 Apr 2019 Tips To A Successful Mommy Makeover Recovery

Mommy makeovers are a fabulous and successful way to restore your pre-baby body by combining several cosmetic procedures, such as a tummy tuck and breast augmentation, into one surgery. However, the combination of procedures can make your mommy makeover recovery a bit overwhelming. Fortunately, with the skill and expertise of Salem plastic surgeons Dr. Keith Neaman and Dr. Dustin Christiansen along with these tips, you can be sure to have a quick and seamless mommy makeover recovery.

Plan Ahead for After Surgery Ease

Surgery of any kind is taxing on the body, and the last thing you want to think about after your procedure is performing daily household tasks. The goal is to make your life easier, so stock up on ready-made food and freeze meals. Make sure laundry is done and the house is clean. By knocking out your house/family responsibilities ahead of time, you can recover without added stress. Fill prescriptions prior to surgery to avoid extra work or the possibility of running into people when you may not be feeling so social. Thinking ahead can ensure you have a smooth and comfortable recovery period.

Adopt a Healthy Lifestyle to Prevent Side Effects

To achieve the best possible results, you should take the necessary steps to lead a healthy life. It doesn’t matter if you underwent abdominoplasty, a body lift, breast augmentation or any other cosmetic surgery, complications can arise if you don’t make smart and healthy choices. Smoking can hinder your recovery by making it hard for your body to recover so eliminate that. Certain medications can result in an increase in bleeding and bruising. You’ll want to discuss all medications with Dr. Neaman or Dr. Christiansen prior to surgery to make sure you do not suffer any adverse reactions. A good thing to keep in mind – the healthier you are before surgery, the easier your mommy makeover recovery will be.

Rest and Be Patient For Optimum Results

Recovery is about taking it easy and letting your body heal. To do this, you must rest, rest and rest some more. Be patient with yourself and know it’s okay not to do very much while recovering from surgery. Listen to your body; it will tell you when you need to slow down and rest.

Schedule Your Consultation At Neaman Plastic Surgery Today!

A mommy makeover recovery takes time and is not something to rush. Keep these tips in mind and find out what else you can do to ensure you have the very best possible recovery.
