Breast Lift vs. Breast Reduction

30 Oct 2018 Breast Lift vs. Breast Reduction

When most people think of breast enhancement, they typically think of women receiving breast implants to boost their bustline. And while most women who visit Neaman Plastic Surgery inquiring about breast enhancement are in fact considering breast augmentation to add volume, there are still many women who desire to either reposition their breasts by lifting or to simply reduce their overall size.

Give Your Breasts a Lift with a Breast Lift

Breast lift surgery, also called mastopexy, is a procedure that lifts and firms the breasts to achieve a heightened chest profile. Although breast implants can be combined with a lift, the primary goal of a breast lift is to reduce sagging by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour. Implants are often used to increase fullness in breasts that have lost shape and volume such as from pregnancy and nursing. When breast implants are not used, a breast lift does not make the breasts significantly smaller as it is primarily removing skin and not breast tissue.

Reduce Heavy, Large Breasts with Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery, also referred to as reduction mammoplasty, is a procedure that’s sole purpose is to reduce the size of the breasts. This is accomplished by removing excess skin, fat, and glandular tissue. Breast reduction not only makes the breasts smaller, but it also helps to eliminate negative symptoms associated with overly large breasts, such as back, neck and shoulder pain.

Two Different Procedures, Similar Benefits

Both a breast lift and breast reduction can successfully help to restore confidence and give women the chest profile they desperately desire. Although they are different procedures with different results and approach, they are very similar in the regard they both improve the overall appearance of the breasts by positioning them higher and restoring firmness. Take a look at our before and after pictures to see what results you may be able to achieve through a breast lift or breast reduction at Neaman Plastic Surgery.

The best way to decide which procedure is best suited for your specific needs is to schedule a consultation with Salem plastic surgeons Dr. Keith Neaman or Dr. Dustin Christiansen so together you can discuss your aesthetic goals and review your particular situation, including assessing your current breast profile. A treatment plan will be devised, and you will be on your way to younger, perkier looking breasts. Contact Neaman Plastic Surgery today and schedule your consultation at 844-338-5445!

What Procedures Can Be Included In My Mommy Makeover?

05 Dec 2017 What Procedures Can Be Included In My Mommy Makeover?

At Neaman Plastic Surgery, serving Corvallis, Oregon, and surrounding areas, we tailor your mommy makeover to your individual needs and goals. Together with Dr. Keith Neaman, your body will be assessed to create an individualized combination of procedures that will ultimately give you your desired results. The most popular cosmetic procedures bundled with Mommy Makeovers include:

Liposuction

Liposuction surgery involves the removal of fat cells from targeted areas of the body. Through liposuction, a plastic surgeon can remove fat in many different areas of the body including the stomach, waist, buttocks, thighs, arms, and neck. Essentially, liposuction is added to a Mommy Makeover for body contouring.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation enhances the size and shape of the breasts through the placement of silicone, saline, or “gummy bear” implants.

Mommy Makeovers usually always include some variation of a breast augmentation.

Breast Lift

A breast lift raises and firms the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue; providing a more youthful, perky appearance. The breast lift procedure can reduce the size of the enlarged areola as well.

Breast Reduction

Breast reduction involves the removal of excess skin, fat, and glandular tissue in order to reduce breast size. Often, a breast reduction procedure included in a Mommy Makeover can enhance the overall aesthetics of the breast by creating an improved shape and making the breast more proportional to the rest of the body.

Thigh Lift

Thigh lift surgery, also known as thighplasty, reduces excess skin and fat in the thigh and gives a redefined, slimmer, smoother look to the upper leg. Thigh lifts can address the medial thigh, lateral thigh, buttocks, or a combination of areas depending on the specific type of thigh lift needed.

Tummy Tuck

Tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that tightens abdominal muscles and gets rid of excess fat and skin; resulting in a flatter, more toned stomach. It also improves the appearance of distorted or stretched out belly buttons by creating a new belly button at the time of surgery.

For most women, this is usually the primary focus of a Mommy Makeover.

Considerations Before You Change Your Breast Size

08 May 2017 Considerations Before You Change Your Breast Size

You’ve probably been giving breast augmentation surgery a lot of thought for a very long time., Maybe you’re considering a size change or perhaps a reduction in size.  It sounds pretty fantastic, but just like most things in life, you need to be informed and have reasonable expectations before moving forward.

A few imperative things to think about before breast augmentation

1. There are different types of breast implants

A few years ago, saline was the most popular type of breast implant because of fear of the controversy regarding silicone implants. Those fears have been relieved, as silicone implant research has deemed them perfectly safe. Today most women choose silicone over saline because they feel silicone has a more natural look and feel.

Which type of implant you decide on is a decision made with your surgeon and will be based on your anatomy and expectations.

2. Implants don’t last forever

Generally speaking, breast implants last between 10 and 15 years. So, depending on the age you have surgery, you may be looking at a few surgeries in your lifetime. A point to consider.

3. Breast reduction….one and done

How long a breast reduction lasts depends on your breasts. There are three types of breast tissue: fatty, fibrous and glandular and for most women, developing fibrous or glandular tissue after surgery is highly improbable. So, a breast reduction surgery is likely to last a lifetime.

4. There are different techniques in implant placement

The surgeon will choose, with your input and anatomy type, the correct technique for you. He will make the incision and insert the implant in one of three places:

  • Around the nipple
  • Under the arm
  • In the crease of your breast

The technique will depend on the type of implant you choose, your anatomy along with your personal preference.

5. Choose Your Salem Breast Surgeon Wisely

Ultimately, the results achieved and your level of satisfaction will be directly related to the physician you choose. Find a board certified plastic surgeon that has experience and is highly regarded in the community. It is not unique for women to “interview” the breast augmentation doctor during your consultation. Find out if you will work well together in this collaboration.

Combining A Mommy Makeover and Tummy Tuck

03 May 2017 Combining A Mommy Makeover and Tummy Tuck

A “Mommy Makeover” is a combination of procedures designed to meet the needs and goals of the patients. As a customized surgery, this mommy makeover surgery is quickly becoming very popular combining a variety of procedures to help get the desired results.

Breast Augmentation Surgery

Following pregnancy, many women feel as if their chest appear smaller or less full. Whether one breastfed or not, sometimes just the average weight gain/loss associated with pregnancy can do this to breasts. Breast augmentation is often one of the most popular procedures performed during a mommy makeover, and it may or may not include a breast lift.

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) Surgery

Tummy Tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, is another procedure often performed during a mommy makeover. Stretched out muscles and stretch marks continue to make tummy tucks a viable option for new moms to help restore a flatter tummy.
Liposuction

Love handles, sagging arms and fat deposits under the armpits are natural places to have liposuction – especially when a part of a mommy makeover. Liposuction uses a suction device to make tiny holes to break up and remove fatty tissue from stubborn areas.

Breast Reduction

During a Breast Reduction, fat, tissue and skin are removed, and the breasts are then reshaped – which also closely resembles as a breast lift for many women. This procedure can sometimes be a part of a mommy makeover. Many women turn to breast reduction because after weight gain due to the pregnancy, combined with sagginess; it has left their breasts heavier, many times causing neck and back pain.

Breast Augmentation Is Very Different Than Breast Reduction And Here Is Why

30 Apr 2017 Breast Augmentation Is Very Different Than Breast Reduction And Here Is Why

So, you are unhappy with your breasts? The shape may be off, the position is not the same as it once was or maybe they are just too large, so you begin to do your research on breast augmentation in Salem, but then realize that maybe just implants are not going to give you the desired look you are hoping for.

Women who would like to change the overall look of their breasts need to be aware that there is quite an array of choices in surgical procedures. Dr. Keith Neaman, right here in Salem, discusses with his patients the best surgical options to fit each unique situation, tailoring to his patients’ specific concerns in order for them to make an informed decision.

Breast Augmentation VS Breast Reduction Have Basic Differences In Overall Goal

Patients from Salem, Oregon, and surrounding communities like Albany, Dallas, Corvallis, Keizer and McMinnville no longer have to drive into Portland to have their breast concerns addressed. Dr. Neaman sits down with each patient during a private consultation to help define the specific goal for the most optimal end result. If the goal is to have perkier and fuller breasts, and you don’t have ptosis or low-lying nipples than a breast augmentation may just fit your needs. If you have one of these conditions, but still want youthful looking breasts than a breast lift with augmentation will more than likely be the procedure that is right for you. But, if your goal is to have a significant amount of weight and volume removed from your breasts, then a breast reduction procedure will likely be what is required for you to achieve these goals. If you have too much breast tissue, adding more volume with an implant without first removing the tissue, will not be a result that anyone would be pleased with.

Some patients wonder if they can lift the breast without removing any of their tissue, however, this can get tricky because the look may leave their breasts looking smaller—once again not giving the patient their desired look. Unfortunately, the answer of what procedure is right for you isn’t always so clear, because each body is unique and each person has a different desired outcome. Many women have heard that breast implants with a breast augmentation is the only reliable way to actually lift the breasts, however, this is not necessarily the case.

Breast Augmentation and Breast Reduction Have Common Advantages

Though the procedures of breast augmentation, breast lift, and breast reduction are different procedures, they all do share one common trait. They all are usually relatively easy to have performed and usually result in a very successful outcome with the vast majority of women having a high degree of satisfaction with their final results.

Women all over the Salem area who come to see Dr. Neaman for a breast surgery usually have the same common desire, they want their breasts to look more youthful, and have a proportional body shape. They also all report that they are happier with their overall figure after the proper surgical procedure has been performed. That is why it is so important to consults with a board certified plastic surgeon, like Dr. Neaman who will listen to the overall goal you have in mind and tailor the procedure to give you that result.

How Do I Know If I Need A Breast Reduction vs. Breast Augmentation?

Your surgeon will give specific details on what procedure will be performed and which one best suits your needs. But, if you experience any of these symptoms then you may more than likely need a breast reduction.
1. Do your breasts feel heavy?
2. Do you have improper posture due to your breast size?
3. Are you experiencing severe shoulder, neck or back pain?
4. Does your bra strap leave an indention that seems almost permanent on your shoulder?
5. Do you feel your breasts are too large for your body shape?

How Is A Breast Reduction Procedure Performed?

A breast reduction procedure is very similar to how a breast lift is performed. The incision is made either around the areola, around the areola and then vertically down to the breast crease, or around the areola down from the breast crease and then horizontally along the breast fold. The difference is what is removed during the procedure. The main determining factor is actually how much breast tissue you have vs. how much breast skin you have.

Skin is supposed to have elasticity and breast tissue is fatty and glandular. If a patient loses weight or has had children or both, the breasts appear to be large because of the breast sagging or drooping. But more than likely this patient will just require a breast lift (with possible breast augmentation).

Women who have large breasts naturally who have a large amount of fatty breast tissue with some good skin elasticity are probably candidates for breast reduction surgery. During this procedure, a large amount of skin and fatty tissue is removed to reduce the overall size of the breast.

Choosing The Correct Breast Augmentation For You

26 Jan 2017 Choosing The Correct Breast Augmentation For You

One has a variety of breast-related surgeries that could be a part of your breast augmentation including Breast lift, breast implants or breast reduction. These are the three options a woman is given when it comes to reshaping her breasts through plastic surgery. Many women are born with an ideal breast shape and size, but many others are not, and it is for them that cosmetic breast surgery has come into existence.

Types of Breast Surgeries

When it comes to restructuring the contour of the breasts, three surgeries are available. Breast augmentation, breast lift and breast reduction. Let’s review a these in detail as each produces a different result.

Breast Augmentation Surgery

Breast augmentation surgery, also referred to as breast implants, involves making the breast size larger and is done with implants. The goal is to achieve a pleasing profile that is in line with the patient’s size and proportion. Different women all have different reasons for desiring breast augmentation. It is a personal decision made by the patient with advice from her doctor.

Breast Lift Surgery

Women who are experiencing droopy breasts may choose a breast lift. The sagging affects older women or women who have had children. The breast lift involves removing excess skin, relocating the nipple and reshaping the breast profile. Many times, this procedure is done in conjunction with placement of breast implants.

Breast Reduction Surgery

Many times the breasts are out of proportion to the rest of a woman’s body. If they are large, they can cause neck, shoulder and back pain due to their excessive weight. A Breast Reduction procedure involves removing excess breast tissue and aging skin. The overall silhouette of the woman will be in more proportion and stretched skin will be gone.

Am I A Candidate For A “Mommy Makeover”?

08 Sep 2016 Am I A Candidate For A “Mommy Makeover”?

Childbirth can sometimes wreak havoc to one’s body leaving young mothers wishing to regain their pre-pregnancy bodies. “Mommy Makeover” are quickly becoming very popular combining a variety of procedures to help get the desired results.

Here are a few tips that may be helpful in deciding if a Mommy Makeover is right for you.

Breast Augmentation

Many women feel as if their breast appear smaller and/or look saggier after childbirth. Whether one breastfed or not, sometimes just the normal weight gain/loss associated with pregnancy can do this to breasts. Breast augmentation is often one of the most popular procedures performed during a mommy makeover. One factor you will have to consider is the type of implant you will have with your breast augmentation, silicone or saline implants. Be sure to discuss with your Plastic Surgeon the options and desired outcome and together you guys can identify the type of implant that is best for you.

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Tummy Tucks, also known as abdominoplasty are another procedure often performed during a mommy makeover. Flabby abdomens, stretched out muscles and stretch marks continue to make tummy tucks a viable option for new moms to help restore a flatter tummy. During a Tummy Tuck, both skin and fat are removed from the top of the pubic hairline to the belly button. In addition, abdominal muscles are tightened and any stretch marks that were below the belly button disappear.

Liposuction

Sagging arms, love handles and extra fat on breasts under the armpits all are issues that women seek an answer for after childbirth, as diet and exercise alone sometimes just doesn’t solve these issues. Therefore, it is a very popular procedure performed during a mommy makeover. Liposuction uses a suction device to make tiny holes to break up and remove fatty tissue from stubborn areas.

Breast Reduction

During a Breast Reduction, fat, tissue and skin are removed, and the breasts are then reshaped. This procedure can sometimes be a part of a mommy makeover. Many women turn to breast reduction because after weight gain due to the pregnancy, combined with sagginess, it has left their breasts heavier, many times causing neck and back pain.
A mommy makeover procedure is unique to each individual and depending on the look, feel and overall result you are looking for, will require different aspects and/or procedures.

It is important to discuss with a board certified plastic surgeon all your goals and expectations during your consultation to ensure you will get the results you are hoping for. Contact Dr. Keith Neaman today to inquire about a mommy makeover consultation today – 844-338-5445.

Plastic surgery for teenagers?

15 Mar 2016 Plastic surgery for teenagers?

What is the appropriate thing to do if there is a part of your child’s body that they don’t like, or that may be causing them pain, or even ridicule?

A recent piece in People Magazine which was picked up by the Today Show, talked about this. For the most part these were very good pieces, even though Ann Curry tried to make it controversial or “edgy.” However, this can be a bit of a sticky subject, but there are some very reasonable things that can be done to find our way through this.

There are certain conditions that absolutely lend themselves to surgical correction in adolescence. Adolescence may even be the best time to do the surgery. In other conditions, the body may still be developing and waiting until later will give a better outcome. Talking with a Board Certified plastic surgeon who has experience with these various procedures will hep you understand the right timing in terms of physical development.

The more difficult issues you have to figure out, actually have to do with the motivation behind going forward with surgery. While some people recommend having the child (let’s say, “patient,” instead of “child”) talk with psychologists to understand the motivation, we don’t really think this is necessary. To us, the best approach is to talk with the patient, and parent to understand what issues are at play. We always treat the patient as an adult, because it’s his or her body that we are talking about. It’s important to have a very honest conversation, even when it can be awkward or embarrassing, and to make the patient an important part of the decision making process. If the patient is in pain because her breasts are too big, or he/she is being called “dumbo” because of ears that stick out, or he won’t take his shirt off or go to the pool because of male breast development, surgery can be a big help in many ways. Parents are sometimes amazed when we talk about this, and their kids open up about how this affects them.

Plastic Surgery Procedures Performed on Young Patients:

But every procedure involves some risks, even if they are minimal, and we have to talk about these. We have to discuss not only what the surgical procedure can do (the benefits), but what the process entails: the fact that there is a recovery process and downtime, that there will be some pain, and that there will be some scars.  In our experience, if the patient is really concerned about a part of their body, he or she will usually be extremely accepting of going through the process to have it corrected.

To be sure, the decision to recommend surgery to anyone is not to be taken lightly, and — perhaps — even more so if the patient is your child. Sometimes though, the procedure can make a world of difference. Contact Dr. Keith Neaman today for a consult and see if your child is a candidate for plastic surgery.
