Are you interested in reducing your wrinkles, crow’s feet, or frown lines and looking to rejuvenate your skin? If so, you aren’t alone. Botox is the most popular cosmetic procedure in the country and one of the most requested services at our clinic. If you are considering getting Botox injections for the first time, you might be wondering what you can expect from the procedure. How does Botox work? Are there any side effects? How long does it last? These are all common questions and it’s important to understand this procedure so you can make an informed decision about what is best for you.

WHAT IS BOTOX?

Botox is an FDA approved injectable that works to temporarily weaken the muscles in your face that cause wrinkles, laugh lines, creases around your mouth, and crow’s feet. The treatment is a safe and effective way to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and improve the appearance of the skin. Botox injections are the most frequently performed noninvasive procedures and take only about 10-15 minutes to complete.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER YOUR INJECTION

Botox is a quick, safe, and effective procedure that can help to rejuvenate the skin, leaving you with a more youthful appearance. As with any procedure, there may be some side effects associated with your injection, though these are generally mild. Here is an idea of what you can expect after the procedure.

1) You Can Resume Normal Activity Immediately

One of the reasons so many people choose Botox injections is because they are fast and convenient. It takes only a matter of minutes to complete the procedure, so you can actually have it done on your lunch hour. You can expect to resume your normal daily activities right after the procedure. You should, however, avoid lying down for four hours following treatment. Immediately after your treatment, you may notice small red bumps but these should go away in about 20-30 minutes. Swelling and redness may occur, though this is not common with every patient. If you do notice these symptoms, they should resolve within an hour. Alternatively, bruising could occur, though this is less likely. To reduce inflammation and swelling, take care not to rub or massage the treated area right after the procedure.

2) You Should Notice Results in 2-5 Days

Botox will smooth your skin, but you will not notice the results immediately. In most cases, it will take about 2-3 days to see the first changes and it could take up to two weeks for the injection to take full effect. It’s important to note that cosmetic procedures are not immediate and they are also not a one and done procedure.

3) Results Usually Last About 3 to 5 Months

Botox is not a permanent procedure and over time the treatment is metabolized by the body. One treatment lasts between three to five months on average, though results vary depending on the individual patient. For continuous results, schedule treatments at regular intervals with your specialist. If at any time you choose to discontinue treatment, your lines and wrinkles will gradually return over time.
